The story behind "Hope"

ASTRAL KITCHEN was playing in a small venue called "Peri's " in the little town of Fairfax California on May 8th 2008. During break, John Richardson introduced himself to the band as a Barack Obama supporter, and asked if the band would be interested in participating in a "Bands for Obama" campaign to help get the Democratic nominee elected into office in the 2008 elections. We thought it sounded like a good thing!.....thus the wheels began to turn. Joel Williams, AK's guitarist for a few years now, had a piece of music that was in the early stages of development, and needed some lyrics. After writing the lyrics, Joel new that this was a perfect fit for his music, and presented it to the guys. It was obvious within two takes that we had the tune that would soon  become "Hope", and we set out to record it.

The Making of "Hope" 

Recorded "live in the studio" Hope began as a four piece song ( two guitars, bass, drums) Chris manned the mixing console. Vocals and keyboard were then dubbed and finished the song. At the time, Drummer, Paul Gonsalves was working with ASTRAL KITCHEN as a stand in drummer (Chris injured his ribs in May of 2008) and appears on this track along with Joel Williams, Bruce Robinson, Marius Pelsma and Chris Blackard (on keyboards and percussion) We filmed the actual studio version of the song being made, and  released the WMV footage of the song on www.myspace/astralkitchen. Joel also documented the event with some still photos that are available here.

We really hope that you share this song with all of your friends, and family. We also hope that you will take some time to listen to other ASTRAL KITCHEN songs that have been previously recorded, and are available on CD's or digitally at many major MP3 outlets. We want to urge all of you to get out and vote in the coming election!.....WE NEED A CHANGE!....The Bush administration has put this country in a very bad spot, and it is up to us to fix it!
